Quick Share is now available on Android.
File sharing has historically been a complex issue within the Android ecosystem, with Google and Samsung introducing their own implementations. Conversely, Google and Samsung announced at CES 2024 a partnership for the introduction of a novel cross-platform sharing solution branded Quick Share.
Designed to be released in February, this functionality expands compatibility beyond Android devices to include Windows laptops and Chromebooks. It also enables file sharing between Android devices. Moreover, users can now concurrently share files with multiple contacts, an attribute that was previously absent from the Nearby Share feature.
Rapid Pair
It is common knowledge that manually connecting a Bluetooth device is a laborious process that demands users to complete numerous procedures. In response to this concern, Google implemented Fast Pair, a feature that facilitates smooth and effective pairing and transitioning among numerous Bluetooth devices. The expansion of this service to Chromecast with Google TV will streamline the process of connecting headphones for late-night movie sessions.
It is essential to note, however, that Fast Pair is only compatible with headphones that feature location services and support the Bluetooth Low Energy standard.
Casting has expanded to more applications and devices
In recent years, short-form video has flourished, especially on TikTok, where users spend the majority of their time perusing. Google has therefore announced a new functionality that enables users to stream TikTok videos on televisions equipped with the Chromecast standard.
Furthermore, Google and LG are partnering to expand Chromecast functionalities within the hospitality division of LG TVs, thereby facilitating seamless app streaming on LG televisions while guests are in rooms, all without requiring login credentials. Furthermore, it is imminent that users who own compatible Pixel phones will have the capability to mirror their Spotify or YouTube Music playlists onto a docked Pixel tablet.
